Obituary
WASHINGTON - Harlen Klekamp, 87, of Washington, IL died at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 following treatment at North Memorial Hospital in MN. Born April 11, 1919 in South Litchfield, IL to John H. and Anna (Brockmeyer) Klekamp, he married Lois Jesse in Rice Lake, WI on June 6, 1948. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2003. Surviving are three sons, Dr. David (Jennifer) Klekamp of Littleton, CO, Vincent (Margaret) Klekamp of Freeport, IL and Kenneth (Marilyn) Klekamp of Washington, IL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he was a vocational agriculture instructor for six years after which he joined Investors Diversified Services, Inc. as a financial planner. He retired in 1984. He served in the Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Capella (AK13) as Chief Yeoman until his discharge December 31, 1945. He was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Washington where, over time, he held various positions. He was a member of the International Lutheran Laymen's League. He was a member of the Land of Lincoln Packard Club, the Allis Chalmer Connection Club and a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was a volunteer for Wildlife Prairie Park, Operation Senior Security, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program helping the elderly with their Medicare and health insurance issues. Services will be at 7 PM Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington. The Rev. David Likeness will officiate. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the services (5-7 PM) at the church. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be at 11 AM Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at St. John's Cemetery in South Litchfield, IL.
