Hans William Engel, 91, of Washington, IL, died at 3:23 am Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his daughters home surrounded by his family. Born on June 24, 1930 in Peoria, IL to Detlef and Marie Ruge Engel, he married Eileen Johnson on April 5, 1952 in Peoria, IL. Surviving is his loving wife of 69 years, Eileen, 3 children; Lynn (Farrell) Lord of Metamora, IL, Gary Hans Engel of Lake Orion, MI, and Laurie (Paul) Fotsch of Washington, IL, 4 grandchildren; Hayley (Nate) Sefton, Elisa (Thomas) Goodman, Megan (Colin) Litow, and Katelyn (Jordan) Pringle, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother. Hans worked as a Test Engineer at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He built the family home in Peoria, where he and Eileen lived for 60 years. Hans enjoyed time with family at the lake in Eagle River, WI, where he also enjoyed fishing. He also was a member of the Senior Olympic Men's Volleyball Team where he played in both Utah and Florida. Early days found Hans playing the trumpet with the Ratskeller Brummers Band in Peoria. He was also a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria. Services will be at 11 am Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at First English Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor Ryan H. Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11 am Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to his church.
