Obituary
Peoria - Gordon L. LaBerdia, 87, of Peoria, died at 2:36 PM on Saturday September 15, 2012 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 12, 1925 in Springfield. He married Sarah Joann Gordon on March 17, 1962 in Peoria Heights. She survives.
Also surviving are one son; Bill (Rose) LaBerdia of Dunlap and one daughter; Judy (John) Lykins of Washington; one stepson; Rick Holmes of Lafayette, LA and eight grandchildren; Shaun, Missy, Jeff, Dena, Darrin, Jonathan, Danelle and Jarrod. He is also survived by his beloved dog Cadbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.
Gordon retired in 1987 after 19 years of service to the Journal Star as Plant engineer. After retirement he and Joann moved to Winter Haven, Florida where they enjoyed 19 years golfing and spending time together. In 2004 they moved back to Peoria so they could be close to family and friends. He was a very handy man and will be missed by many at the apartment complex where they lived. He was always available to fix whatever may be broken and was a jack of all trades. He especially loved cars. In his seventy plus years of driving he was constantly selling and buying new vehicles and has owned more vehicles than the family could keep count of.
He was a member of Abbas Grotto in East Peoria and a member of the Masonic lodge.
There will be a memorial service for Gordon on Thursday September 20, 2012 at 7 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor John Hauck will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Gordon's memorial website may be found at www.deitersfuneralhome.com where online condolences may also be sent to the family.
