Obituary Goldie Mae Akers, 74, of East Peoria, passed away and went home to Heaven at 8:46pm Friday, October 30, 2015 in her home where she was surrounded by family. Goldie was born December 21, 1940 in Benton to Lyman and Denzel Hill Launius. She married John Akers on October 18, 1959 in Peoria; he survives. Also surviving are her children, Todd (Darlene) Akers of Washington and David (Tamara) Akers of Bailey, MS; grandchildren, Ryan Akers, Stephanie (Giovanni) Lopez, and Todd Akers, Jr.; great-grandson, Abram Lopez; sister, Lucille Dalton; and sister-in-law, Betty Launius. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Sadie Launius; and brother, Kenny Launius. Goldie enjoyed the work she did in the area at Bishop's as well as at the cafeteria at Beverly Manor School for 19 years. She then worked as a receptionist at the Peoria Journal Star for many years until retiring in 2009. She loved her Bible and was a faithful member at Averyville Baptist Church since 1962. Always the life of the party, Goldie was a very special lady, a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed, but there is comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord. A funeral service for Goldie will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Monday, November 2, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Memorial contributions may be made to Averyville Baptist Church.
