Obituary EAST PEORIA-Gladys Lorraine Zimmerman, 94, of East Peoria, formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully at 8:48 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born on September 26, 1917 in East Peoria to Albert and Rachel Smith Stiles, she married Marcellus Zimmerman on May 23, 1936 in East Peoria. After 74 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on December 19, 2010 in Peoria. Also preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Theodore "Ted" Sieg, 1 grandson, Mark A. Sieg, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Gladys is survived by 3 daughters, Bette L. Sieg of Washington, Marlene K. (Charles, Sr.) Passero of Ocean Pines, MD, and Cynthia L. (Eugene) Smick of East Peoria, 5 grandchildren, Katherine (William) Allen, Charles M. Passero, Kristina Venable, Matthew (Christie) Smick, and Brandon (Christy) Smick, 9 great-grandchildren, Barton Allen, Kayla (Joshua) Carroll, Adelynn Smick, Tyas Smick, Charles D. Passero, Grace Venable, James Venable, Owen Smick, and Jenna Smick, and 1 great-great-grandson, Isaiah Carroll. Gladys was one of the first graduating classes from East Peoria High School, graduating in 1935. She was a member of Beverly Manor Home Bureau and East Peoria United Methodist Church. Gladys was a homemaker, violinist, and participated in the ICC Orchestra for a short time. She also played the organ and enjoyed oil and china painting. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Bradley Basketball fan, enjoyed Statler Brothers' music, crossword puzzles, and fishing. Her dear friends at Riverview Senior Living Community enriched her last few years; they enjoyed "Kings in the Corner" card games and performing musical entertainment together. She loved being with her family, especially her numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Pastor William Allen and Pastor Mary Arnold will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Methodist Home Health Care.
