Obituary

East Peoria - Gilbert Hyle Reynolds, 92, of East Peoria, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 31, 1928 on the family farm in Pickett County, Tennessee, to Johnnie E. and Lora J. (Winningham) Reynolds. The property was acquired by the TVA in 1942 and became part of what is now Dale Hollow Lake. He graduated from McMinnville Central H.S. where he helped lead the basketball team to the 1946 State Finals. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army's Signal Corps during the Korean War. He married Rosemary (Klecka) on March 13, 1954. She survives along with sons Keith (Cindy) Reynolds of Germantown Hills, Greg (Denise) Reynolds of Franklin, TN and daughter Karen (Glenn) Seils of Little Rock, AR. Also surviving is his brother Rodney Reynolds of McMinnville, TN, grandchildren Katie (Jonathan) Welch, Neil (Haley) Reynolds, Kelli Reynolds, Dr. Jacob Seils and Michael (Alexandria) Seils. Three great-grandchildren (David Welch, Addison Welch and William Seils), numerous nephews, nieces and close friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hesper Reynolds, Waldo Reynolds, J.B. Reynolds, Charles Reynolds, Cordell Reynolds, Ronnie Reynolds, Clifford Reynolds and sisters Anna Gunnels and Johnnie Hurn. He put his faith first and loved leading and serving his family. Gilbert retired from Caterpillar in 1992 after 43 years. He was also a part-time barber for over 30 years, frequently serving those hospitalized or in extended care facilities who were no longer able to get out for a haircut themselves. Gilbert was a member at Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years where he served in many leadership roles including being an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and leading the Youth Group alongside his wife. A number of the relationships with those young people continued till his death. He and Rosemary have been members of Grace Presbyterian Church for the past 45 years where they worked together in the Three-Year-Old Department for several decades. In addition, they also took several Missions Trips to Camp Evangel in rural Virginia which serves disadvantaged children from all over the Appalachian region. He was particularly close with numerous friends who were part of the Monday Morning Work Fellowship group at the church who he worked with each week. Gilbert also served as a volunteer/mentor for a number of years at Glen Oak Grade School as part of the Good News Club program. He had a strong personal faith and loved Jesus Christ, reading his Bible each day despite increasing challenges with failing vision. Similarly, he prayed for his family each day without failing. His was a life well lived. The family would like to personally thank, Dr. Jeff Leman, Pastor John Hopwood and special neighbor, Donna Williams for their steadfast love and support. Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to a service at 11:00 a.m Pastor John Hopwood will officiate. Services will be available to watch remotely by signing onto the funeral home facebook page after 10:45 am Wednesday, no password is needed. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
