Obituary East Peoria- Gertrude Meta Shorey, 83 of Washington, passed away at 8:12 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Gertrude was born on February 10, 1929 on the family farm near Perry, IA to the late John and Meta (Leibe) Nicolaisen. She married Raymond Shorey on December 3, 1947 in Jefferson, IA. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary (Sheila) Shorey of Elk Grove Village, IL and Eric Shorey of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Mikelson of Glidden, IA; a brother, John (Betty) Nicolaisen of Omaha, NE; several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by seven siblings. Gertrude was a long time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where she served the faith community as a Sunday School Teacher. She was an avid golfer and was a former Cub Scout Leader. Gertrude enjoyed crocheting, and scrapbooking. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria. Rev. Kurt Mews will officiate. Honoring Gertrude's wishes cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
