Obituary Washington- George J. Woodward, Jr., 88, formerly of Washington passed away at 4:35 PM on Friday, July 10, 2009 in Henry. He was born on February 21, 1921 to George J. and Violet (Kilgore) Woodward in Hays, KS. He married Skip Witte on June 22, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2007. He is survived by 3 daughters Cathy (Scott) Perz of Crystal Lake, IL, Suzie (Ken) Pilon of Peoria, and Mary Helen (Jerry) Solan of Hawthorn Woods, IL; and 6 grandchildren Brent and Greg Perz, Mark Pilon, and John, Robert and Emily Solan. He was preceded in death by one sister. George was a teacher and principal in District 86 where he taught for 33 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Knights of Columbus, Ministry of Care, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington. He enjoyed photography of East Peoria Cross Country events. A Funeral Mass for George will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, IL. A visitation will also be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, July 13 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peoria Cursillo or to the District #86 Education Foundation.
