Obituary
Washington- George A. Romack, 84, of Washington, IL, died at 6:51 pm, on Saturday November 24, 2012, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
George was born on March 6, 1928 in Bement, IL to Sidney H. and Maban C. Howard Romack. He married Ann Vollmer on June 10, 1952 in Millstadt, IL, she survives.
Surviving George are 3 daughters, Jane (Dale) Dobbins of Morton, Cathy Romack (Gordon Johnson) of Northridge, CA, and Mary (Jeff) Phillips of Sugar Grove, IL, 3 sons, George M. Romack (Betty Frost), Matthew (Carol) Romack, and James Romack, all of Washington, 3 grandchildren, Justin, Jason, and Jordan Phillips of Sugar Grove, 1 brother, Ted (Frances) Romack of Decatur, also 7 step grandchildren, and 16 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Mark Romack, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.
George was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War.
George graduated from St. Louis University in 1956, and then moved to the Peoria area to work at Caterpillar Inc. doing cost analysis. In 1985, he retired from Caterpillar after 28 years of service.
George also was on the Northern Tazewell Water Board for 27 years. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking, softball and many other outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. Father John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the funeral home, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
