Obituary WASHINGTON- George L. Cranford, 86, of Washington, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3:00A.M. at his residence. George was born February 8, 1930 in Peoria to Austin and Mary Moran Cranford. He married Joann Kaufman on October 17, 1955 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Georgie; one daughter, Cindy; and two brothers, Austin and David. George is survived by his four children, Thomas (Joyce) Cranford of Tellico Plains, TN, Craig (Jean) Cranford of Hamburg, AR, Anna (Donny) Norton of Washington, and Laura (Joe) Ziegler of Groveland; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Virgil Cranford and Arthur (Lois) Cranford, both of Peoria Heights Mary Colvin of Danbury, WI, and Robert (Linda) Cranford of Bartonville. George worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier after many years of service. Following his retirement, he continued to work several part-time jobs. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. George was a role model to all with an amazing work ethic and dedication to his family. He enjoyed family vacations, camping and taking his grandkids to countless concerts and amusement parks. If there was a baby around, he was making them smile. Memorial contributions may be made to a fund to benefit George's granddaughter, Heather Dozard c/o Southside Bank or to OSF St. Francis Hospice Services. There will be a memorial service for George on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Inurment will be at Springdale Cemetery.
