Gene Reeves, 96, of Washington, passed away at 10:34 am on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Washington Senior Living.

He was born May 8, 1927 to the late Eva G. (Dexter) and Leslie Reeves in Pleasant Hill, IL. He married Bettie L. Dirksmeyer on August 21, 1954 in Kampsville, IL. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2016.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Eldon E. Reeves; and his 2 sisters, Wilma Knight and Trula Ewers.

He is survived by his children, Eugenia Reeves, Angie (Greg) Warren, Mark (Sheryl) Reeves, and Darren Reeves; his 8 grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren.

Gene was passionate about keeping himself busy throughout his life. He would often be found riding around town on his bike, riding until the age of 93. Gene loved to bring new life to things and did so by reupholstering old furniture. Sometimes you would find Gene out fishing by a pond trying to relax from a week of hard work.

Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northern Tazewell Fire Department.
