Gary A. Rathbun, 80, of Washington, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 28, 1943 in Roanoke to the late Louis and Gladys Marriott Rathbun. He married Sharon Usnik on February 20, 1962 in Washington, and they were blessed with 63 years of marriage.

Surviving is his wife, Sharon; their children. Susan (Rodney) Hedgepath and Doug (Lara) Rathbun; six grandchildren, Ryan Brinker, Joel (Kelli) Brinker, Alex (Mikkell) Brinker, Luke Hedgepath, Emma Rathbun, and Matt Hedgepath; eight great-grandchildren, Carter, Sophia, Jasper, Rosalie, Mille, Maverick, Luna, Hudson, and one coming in May; his sisters-in-law, Rina Rathbun and Jody Rathbun; his cousin, Donna Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Louis (Peggy) Rathbun, Jr., Ken (Rita) Rathbun, Ron Rathbun, Evey (Ralph) Richman, Laurie (Frank) Neenan, Jo (Jack) Reisner, Pat (Nick) Burbach, Jimmy Rathbun (infant), Steve (Marsha) Rathbun, and Rick Rathbun.

Gary was a supervisor at Caterpillar, retiring in 1996 after 32 years of service. He also worked as a barber at Martin's Barber Shop in Washington, working mornings after third shift at Cat. He loved to fish, golf, and hunt with his dogs.
