Obituary
WASHINGTON-Gary Mulally, 76, of Washington, IL died at 9:18 PM Thursday, April 17, 2014 at his home.
Born on June 27, 1937 in Peoria, IL to Marvin and Matilda "Tillie" Patroff Mulally, he married his high school sweetheart, Lea Tremper on July 1, 1960 in Princeton, IL; she survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Terry of Leavenworth, KS, Tod of Marietta, GA, and Troy of Washington; 1 daughter, Trisha (Darrell) Johnson of Washington; 1 sister, Sue (Ron) Messmore of Dunlap; 9 grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Cody, Erin, Brady, Madison, Mydejia, Matthew, and Connor; 1 great-grandson, Carter; and 1 "soon to be" great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son, Tom Mulally.
Gary graduated from Princeton High School in 1955, where he played on the state champion basketball team, qualified for state in track, and also played football. He then served in the United States Navy as a Navy SEAL. He loved being a truck driver for ABF Trucking in Peoria where he worked for 30 years and received the million mile safe driving award as a city driver. Gary was a member of Teamsters Local 627 and also served for over 20 years as a member of the chain gang for all home football games at Washington Community High School.
A Memorial Service will be at 6:00 PM Monday, April 21, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Chaplain Steve Drennan will officiate. A Memorial Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be rendered by Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the US Navy funeral honors team.
Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the Washington Fire Department.
