Gary Heuermann, 64, of East Peoria, passed away in his wife's arms at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his home.

Gary was born February 2, 1959 in Frankfort, Germany to Eugene A. and Donna J. Tanner Heuermann.

He is survived by his partner and best friend, Gloria Shilling; their son, Christopher Shilling; his mother, Donna Heuermann; his siblings, Steve (Carla) Heuermann and Wendy (Rick) Bucklin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad and son, Shon Jones.

Gary worked hard over the years, even going back to school while working at Keystone, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University in 1997. He retired from Alcoa after 20 years, and then worked in maintenance at Allied and Meta Tec. He later became a home health aide for DORS, so he could better care for Christopher, whom he cherished.

Gary loved to keep busy, whether riding his motorcycle, playing sports, or taking a trip with his family. Gary was a diehard sports fan, always catching the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Bradley games.

He also enjoyed serving and being in community with others. He was a volunteer for Limestone Township Fire with his dad, a member of Freedom Valley ABATE and Joseph Robbins Lodge, and was ordained to perform weddings and funerals. Gary was a member of American Legion Post 100, serving as president of the Legion Riders and adjutant of the Sons of the American Legion. He was also an instrumental leader of Riders with Heart, a group he loved to serve with.

He was one of a kind, always made others smile, and had a great smile of his own.
