Fred "Fritz"
Rapp
Oct 11, 1928 — Aug 27, 2023
Fred "Fritz" Rapp, 94, of Peoria, peacefully passed away at 8:14am Sunday, August 27, 2023 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.
Fritz was born October 11, 1928 in Peoria to the late Frederick E. and Willah F. Myers Rapp. Following his high school graduation, he served with the Navy Seabees towards the end of World War II. From fire sale Charmglow paint to Christmas trees and subdivisions, Fritz found his best career as the owner of Construction Materials. His company built the most significant buildings around Peoria in the 70's, 80's and 90's, including the Peoria Civic Center, multiple Caterpillar plants, the Twin Towers, Interstate 74, and Diamond Star plant in Normal. His annual customer trips on chartered planes to Spain, Cancun, Hawaii, and more were always memorable.
Ever the storyteller, Fritz loved sharing his adventures with his family and friends. He travelled the world on Austrian Airlines, to Africa with Bill Rutherford to plan Wildlife Prairie Park, on trips to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota to fish with our Lenny, and his annual trek to his beloved Maui. His friendships spanned the globe, and he met lifetime friends everywhere he traveled.
Fritz lived life well, in legendary form. His was a life filled with adventure, surprise, fun, hard work, and love. His legacy will be remembered by his stories, the buildings we pass on our daily drives, and by the way he loved life passionately.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Rapp (Roger Roemer) of Brimfield and Julie (Peter) Russell of Peoria; his grandchildren, Emily Russell (fiance Josh Portscheller), Ellie (Tyler) Bielawski, and Reed (Sydney) Russell; his great-grandsons, Hudson, Estes, and Herschel; his youngest sister, Pamela K. Rapp (Tom Derry); Kayla Mudge, whom he lovingly cared for and raised like a daughter; Jake and Abbigail Roemer Klein whom he so kindly welcomed; and Dawn Chung, a caring and devoted companion and caregiver.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley D. Pille and Beverly W. Schneider.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate and honor his legacy on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Ivy Club in Peoria from 2p-4p
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rapp Family Memorial Account at Heartland Bank.
