Obituary EAST PEORIA-After a long illness, Francis William "Fran" Manley of East Peoria, Illinois died at 9:40 am August 22, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. He was 86 years old. Fran was born on August 14, 1926 to Edward J. and Elizabeth (Petri) Manley at their farm home in rural Minonk, Illinois. He was the youngest of five children and graduated from Minonk High School. Fran proudly served in the US Navy during World War II, first at Great Lakes Naval Station and then as a Yeoman aboard the USS William R. Rush (DD-714) where he kept the ship's records beginning with its maiden voyage. After returning from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Burrell, on March 1, 1947. They were married for 65 years. Fran is survived by his wife, Gladys, two daughters, Susan Manley, East Peoria, Illinois; Carole (Maury) Leman, of Venice, Florida; 3 grandchildren: Michelle (David) Moyer of Columbus, Ohio; Joel (Angie) Leman of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Melissa Cribbs, Cleveland, Ohio; and six great grandchildren. Fran was General Agent of Monarch Life Insurance Company, and later formed his own company, Fran Manley, Inc., where he provided sales and engineering service to major gas companies. For many years, he served as a Fondulac Township Library board member and President of the East Peoria Community High School AFS Exchange Program. He attended First United Methodist Church of Peoria. Fran loved his family and was especially devoted to his daughters. He will also be remembered for his ever-present sense of humor and his ability to befriend anyone he met. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria, Illinois. Rev. David Stamerjohn will officiate. Visitation is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. followed by a brief memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the funeral home. Cremation has been accorded. Military Honors will be rendered by Tazewell Military Rites Team. In memory of Fran today, please tell your family members that you love them, enjoy a laugh, and bid folks farewell with "God bless you."
