Obituary
WASHINGTON-Evelyn V. Wagner, 85, of Washington, died at 10:41 am Monday, December 27, 2010 in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born on July 28, 1925 in Washington Township, to John and Rachel Opper Aberle, she married Norman Lyle Wagner on January 9, 1947 in Beardstown; he preceded her in death on March 13, 1991.
Evelyn is survived by her 2 children, Patricia L. Wagner of Peoria, and Steven Lyle Wagner of Washington; 2 brothers, Vernon "Boots" Aberle of Washington, and Ralph (Evelyn) Aberle of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She loved being an active grandma with her grandchildren, Mary-Kate Wagner of Prophetstown, and Spenser Wagner of Washington.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold (Margie), Alvin (Verna and Mary), and Glen (Ruth) Aberle.
Evelyn began working at L.G. LeTourneau which later became Komatsu Dresser, retiring after more than 40 years of service. After her retirement, she owned and operated Touched by Grace Consignment Shop on the Square in Washington. She was also a Realtor for Circle Four Reality. Evelyn enjoyed being a political activist and worked successfully to communicate her views on several local projects. She volunteered at the Church Mouse Thrift Shop and the South Side Mission, both in Peoria.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington where funeral services will be at 10 am Monday, January 3, 2011. Pastor Richard Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
