Obituary Washington - Eugene F. "Gene" Hamas, 83, of Washington, died at 2:19 PM on Saturday July 27, 2013 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 10, 1930 in Streator to Francis A. and Mary Margaret Pshak Hamas. He married Joyce Elizabeth Nutty on May 19, 1951 in Washington. She survives. He is also survived by two sons; Stephen Hamas of Creve Coeur and Dan (Janis) Hamas of East Peoria, one daughter, Kathee (Charles) Kiefer of Homer, Alaska, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Barbara. Gene worked thirty-six years for Caterpillar in East Peoria. He retired in 1985, last working in purchasing. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington and a past member of Knights of Columbus. Gene was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He thoroughly enjoyed his yearly trip to Cable, Wisconsin with his family and friends where he spent time fishing, boating, eating and spending quality time with those he loved. Gene loved to feed and watch the birds and enjoyed gardening. He never met a stranger. Gene often met someone for the first time and would end the conversation saying goodbye friend. There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday August 3, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday August 2, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and one half hour prior to the service at church. There will be a prayer service on Friday at 6:45 PM. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Service AUG 3. 10:00 AM St. Patrick Catholic Church 705 E.
