Obituary
Erma June Keil, 93, of East Peoria, passed away at 5:49 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, IL with her family by her side.
She was born March 31, 1922, in Brocton, IL to Clarence and Alice "Fern" Arwine Slager. She married John "Jack" Keil on January 9, 1943, in East Peoria. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Edward Byron Keil; and sister, Betty Wantland.
Surviving are her son, J. Kevin (Mary) Keil of East Peoria; 3 grandchildren, Drs. Adam (Jillian) Keil of Monmouth, Drs. Alex (Adrienne) Keil of Chicago, Andrew Keil of East Peoria; great-granddaughter, Olivia June Keil; brother, Emerson Slager of Hopedale; and several nieces and nephews.
Erma worked as a librarian at Fondulac District Library before retiring where she coordinated Story Hour for 3 and 4 year olds during the 1960s and1970s. Erma enjoyed traveling with her family, reading, completing needlework, clipping newsworthy articles from publications, and providing nuggets of wisdom for her grandsons. One of her legacies was to compile an individual, personalized book of memories for each of them.
She was a member of the East Peoria First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church.
The family extends its thanks to everyone who provided care and companionship for Erma during the last few years of her life.
A graveside service for Erma will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria with Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
