Obituary
Elwanda Markum, 94, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
She was born Sept. 21, 1921 in Alton, IL to Emmitt and Orpha Turner Horn. She married James T. Markum May 27, 1939 in Morganfield, KY. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 3 daughters, Regina Blanton, Janis Moore, Carolyn Markum; 1 son, Richard Markum; and 6 siblings.
Surviving are 3 sons, Harold (and Anne) of Washington, David (and Lynn) of Bartonville; Kenneth of Trivoli; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; 1 brother, Carl Horn of Eldorado; and 2 sisters, Caroline Lewis of MO, and Barb Threet of Quincy.
Elwanda formerly worked at Bemis and Fogler's Mercantile in Creve Coeur and was a member of the Creve Coeur American Legion Auxiliary. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Autism Speaks.
Visitation for Elwanda will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Her funeral will follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Dwight Winnett officiating. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
