WASHINGTONa"Elmo Cicero Wilson, 90, of Washington died at 2:10 AM on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Washington Christian Village.
Born February 24, 1919 in Bradford, AR to Cicero and Allie Alfrey Wilson, he married Mona M. Johnson on February 25, 1941 and was a devoted husband for over 67 years until her death on May 17, 2008.
Elmo was a loving and devoted father to his son, Rudolph M. (Judy) Wilson of Arbela, MO and his daughter, Reta K. (Brad) Swearingen of Washington, IL; a loving and caring grandfather to his 3 grandchildren, Jordan C. (Kim) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Jason A. (Carmelina) Swearingen of Washburn, IL, and Julie E. (Tom) Smith of Washington, IL; 11 great grandchildren; he is also survived by his brother, Milton Wilson of Newport, AR, and sister, Nina DeLand of Grosse Pointe Park, MI; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, and his dear friends McKinney and Mary Ann Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Elmo was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II where he earned 5 bronze stars for campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.
He was a machinist and retired as a paint inspector from Caterpillar, Inc. in May 1982.
He loved gardening, home maintenance and repair, and could fix almost anything, but most importantly was always willing to help others.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. The Rev. Bob DeBolt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:30-12 Noon at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington where military rites will be accorded by the US Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
