Obituary
EAST PEORIAa"Elmer I. Walker, 80, of East Peoria died at 5:20 AM on Friday, March 25, 2011 at his residence.
Born on August 5, 1930 in Buffalo Hart, IL to Elmer and Luella Field Walker, he married Colleen "Corky" Matuszewski on June 18, 1954 in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Stephen W. and Kyle (Cindy) Walker both of East Peoria; his daughter, Luann M. of East Peoria; 2 sisters, Frances (Mel) McCormick and Carol (Bill) Martin, both of East Peoria; his brother, George (Clara) Walker of Marquette Heights; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Jerry.
Elmer was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
He retired from the Tech Center at Caterpillar Inc. in 1978. He also volunteered at Kellar School in Peoria and was in charge of the Buddy Barrell at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in East Peoria, of which he was also a member.
Among Elmer's hobbies were fishing, bowling and horseshoes.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Wed, March 30 at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in East Peoria. The Rev. Fred Doughty will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tues, March 29 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
