Elgene "Gene" C. Martin, 90, of East Peoria, passed away at 1:05pm Friday, October 21, 2022 at Grand View Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Peoria.

Gene was born January 26, 1932 in Chicago to the late John Harold and Gladys Mobeck Lund. She married Anton "Tony" Martin on September 8, 1956 in Granville; he preceded her in death on August 30, 2021.

Surviving is her daughter, Andra (Michael) Stephens of Washington; granddaughters, Chesley and Mollie; and great-grandchildren, Bennett and Emersyn.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dick Lund and Charlotte Mudge.

Gene spent her early years in Chicago, sharing their small family home with other family members during the Great Depression, until the family moved to a dairy farm in Granville. She and her siblings had fond memories of the early years in Chicago, having a home full of cousins to play with. She worked for many years with the Peoria Journal Star and enjoyed keeping up with her co-workers after retiring. She loved to camp and quilt and volunteer her time with Central Illinois Riding Therapy. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.
