Eleanor K. Metzger Rowe Held, 98, of East Peoria, IL, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 in Pekin, IL at Villas of Hollybrook Reflections Memory Care. She was released from the bonds of Alzheimer's which robbed her of her memory, but she never lost her sweet smile or cheerful spirit.
Eleanor was born in Morton, IL on October 23, 1923, to Carl and Emma Metzger. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Hilbert Metzger; and one sister, Mildred Spillman. She married Billy W. Rowe on August 21, 1943, in Peoria, IL; he passed away on December 17, 1987. She later married Clinton Held on September 14, 1991, in East Peoria; he died on March 23, 2002 in Peoria.
Surviving are her children: Rebecca (Terry) Walker of Groveland, IL, Kay (Stephen) Grubis of Rathdrum, ID, and Randy (Thelma) Rowe of Liberty, MO; five grandchildren: Todd (Lori) Walker of Broomfield, CO, Brett (Lisa) Walker of Gig Harbor, WA, Brandi (Scott) James of Thompson Station, TN, Mallory (J) Tomlin of Winooski, VT, and Jarred (Amy) Rowe of Bowling Green, KY; one sister-in-law, Donna Libbey of Metamora; and eight great-grandchildren.
Eleanor graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1941. She worked at Caterpillar as a key punch operator and for East Peoria Grade School District 86 as a cook and then secretary. She was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran church in East Peoria where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Eleanor will be forever loved and remembered for her cheerful good nature, kindness to all, and her clever, often silly poems.
Eleanor's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Pekin Hollybrook Reflections Memory Care and Transitions Hospice Care for Eleanor's excellent care these past years.
There will be no visitation and the family will hold private graveside services at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
