Obituary PEORIA-Edwin E. Hanson, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 2:35am, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Edwin was born in Urbana IL. January 11, 1926 to E. Ruth Handy and Frank P. Hanson. The family moved to Peoria, where Ed attended Sipp School then Kellar, and Woodruff High School. At 17, he joined the ROTC Program of the National Guard at Michigan State University, and was sent to active military duty in the Philippines, where he was awarded a bronze star for valor under fire. At the end of World War II, he resumed an education at Purdue University in Indiana, earning a degree in engineering. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 35 years in Peoria's Engineering and Research departments. He married Marilyn Sedgwick in 1947 at First Federated Church in Peoria; she and their four children Howard P., Alan S., Ruth E., and James E., survive. Ed was certified as an instructor of SCUBA Diving and became an expert underwater photographer and long time member of the Peoria Camera Club. Memorial services will be held at 3:30pm Friday June 21, 2013 at First Federated Church, Peoria. Inurnment will be at the columbarium located at First Federated Church.
