Edward "Butch" Peifer III, 75, of Washington, passed away at 1:11pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born November 10, 1949 in Bloomington, IL to the late Edward Peifer, Jr. and Joanna (Buckles) Peifer. He married Yvonne Marquart on June 17, 1978 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Yvonne; his sons, Andrew Peifer and Edward Peifer IV; and his sister, Susan (Jim) Baker.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Peifer.
Ed grew up in Bloomington, IL and graduated from Illinois State University with an accounting degree. He volunteered his high draft number and enlisted in the United States Army in 1970. He served two years as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam era, stationed in Germany. He was hired on the spot at RLI, Corp. in Peoria, IL and worked there until his retirement. Ed was very active in the Peoria Ski Club and also traveled with the Bloomington Ski Club. He was a lifelong member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, a 4-H hobby since childhood, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and also served as a Tazewell County election judge. He enjoyed swimming, fishing, golfing, traveling all over the world, and spending time with his family.
A funeral Mass for Edward will be held at 11:00am on Monday, August 25, 2025 at his Parish Church, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, IL. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery and Mausoleum in Peoria, IL following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross-Central Illinois Chapter.
