Ed Smith, 85, of Washington, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

He was born September 9, 1938 in Peoria, IL to Eugene and Annie Sue Weldy Smith.  He married Rita K. VanThreese in Indianapolis, IN on December 10, 1966.  She preceded him in death on February 23, 2020.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher; and one sister, Melanie Swanson.

Surviving are his son, Phillip E. (Julie) Smith; three grandchildren, Juliet Tabacchi, Christian and Samantha Hamilton; four great-grandchildren, Salem, Logan, Olivia and Finn; and cousin, Janet Ford.

Ed was a United States Navy Veteran.  He worked for the Diebold Company before retiring.  He was an avid wild turkey, red stag, and beaver hunter.  He loved animals and was a member of the ASPCA.  He loved riding motorcycles and spending time with his family and friends.  He will be dearly missed.

Cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5pm on Saturday, September 7th at the Washington American Legion on Legion Road.  Inurnment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
