WASHINGTONa"Earl R. Phegley, 73, of Washington died at 7:26 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Morton Villa Care Center. Born on July 13, 1934 in Shelby Co., IL, to John Henry and Ocla Trout Phegley, he married Margaruette "Ann" Holliman on August 30, 1974 in Sunnyland, IL. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2006 in Washington. Surviving are 2 stepdaughters, Julie Bristol of Washington and Lora (Joe) Horne of Richmond KS; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Lennel (Juanita) Phegley of Shelbyville, IL; 4 sisters, Genevieve (Roy) Atkins of Nokomis, IL, Vida Hayward, Ruby Prater, and his twin sister, Merle (Don) Himes, all of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Earl worked as a machine operator at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1997. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 3 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Steve Hardin will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, July 2 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton where military rites will be accorded.
