Obituary Morton - Durward D. Howard, 93, of Morton died at 10:04 am on Monday July 28, 2014 at Unitypoint Health Methodist in Peoria. He was born January 6, 1921 in Canton, IL to Floyd and Geneva Hornbeck Howard. They preceded him in death. Durward married Mary Eglehart on September 6, 1941 in Peoria. She survives and resides in East Peoria, IL . They had two sons Larry (Marilyn) Howard of Yucaipa, CA and Jerry (Brenda) Howard. Jerry preceded him in death. He later married Ellen Darling on September 25, 1998 in Pekin. She survives and resides in Morton. Durward is also survived by two step-sons, Michael Clutter of Moline and Bradley (Shawna) Clutter of Pekin, 11 grandchildren, including Tony (Carrie) Howard of East Peoria, Angela Howard of Peoria, Deanna Howard of Springfield, Sara Howard of Peoria and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a 1940 graduate of East Peoria High School. He later served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He was stationed in France, England, Belgium and Germany, and for six months in Czechoslovakia where he worked on an 81 MM mortar crew. He was the owner of Peoples Cab Company in Peoria for ten years and later owned Howard School Bus line from 1964-1999 transporting special needs children. He loved to golf, was a Dale Earnhardt and a NASCAR fan and enjoyed collecting model classic cars. Some of the families favorite memories were made at the winter resort in Michigan where the family would winter at the resort he owned. Durward also loved doing yard work on his riding lawn tractor. There will be a graveside service on Thursday July 31, 2014 at 2 PM at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is handling arrangements. Pastor Steve Barch will officiate and there will be military rites performed. Durward enjoyed a full, happy life with his wife Ellen, children and grandchildren. He especially appreciated the loving support of his grandson Anthony Howard. Memorial contributions for Durward may be made to Schramm School for Special Needs.
