Obituary
GERMANTOWN HILLS--Duane L. Burk, 65, of Germantown Hills, died at 10:15 PM, on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born on October 17, 1942 in Peoria to Wilbur and Camilla Wagner Burk. He married Judith A. Whitlatch on June 13, 1964 in Peoria; she survives.
Surviving are his parents, Wilbur and Camilla Burk of Germantown Hills; 5 children: Douglas (Cari) Burk of Metamora, Lisa (Kedric) Curtis of Germantown Hills, Christopher (Marlis) Burk of Normal, Nicole (Doug) Garber of Metamora, and Jill (Tom) Bremer of Pekin; 12 grandchildren, Dan, Bryan, Zach, Jason, Aaron, Alison, Kathryn, Noah, Eliza, Will, Farrah, and Sierra, 9 brothers and sisters: David (Marge) Burk of Ft. Collins, CO, Becky (Larry) Russell of East Peoria, Kathy (Lenny) Borneman of Morton, Kristy (Norman) Astwood of Chillicothe, Janice Burk of Peoria, Janet Greenleaf of Peoria, Michael Burk of Burns, OR, Dianne (Steve) Larson of Rockford, and Denis (Michelle) Burk of Minneapolis, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Duane was an Engineering Specialist for Caterpillar, last working in the Product Support Division, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Spalding Institute and Bradley University.
He loved traveling, playing cards and golfing, and was a talented artist who enjoyed doing oil paintings of nature scenes. Duane also was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Notre Dame, Bradley University, and the Metamora Redbirds.
Duane was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria, where he was a member of Knights of Columbus Msgr. E. L. Grzybowski Council #7580, served as an usher, walked for Afrishare, and worked with the food program for many years.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 29, 2008 at St Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria. Fr. Kenneth Marchulones will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 PM on Sunday at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, with a prayer service at 6:45 PM. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Snyder Village, or OSF Hospice.
