WASHINGTON - Dr. Neduvelil Anthony Antony, 87, of Washington, IL, died at 4:49 am Monday, December 28, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Born on November 26, 1933 in India to Anthony and Elizabeth Antony, he married Rosey G. Thundathil on January 25, 1960 in India. She survives.
Also surviving are 1 son, Appu Antony and 1 grandson, Jeremiah, both of Peoria, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Dr. Antony began his medical career in Cochin, India and practiced medicine in the southern part of India for nine years. He furthered his training and practice in the United Kingdom where he attended University of Glasgow, Scotland. He studied and practiced there for 2 ½ years.
In June of 1970, he arrived in the United States and became a senior resident in Knickerbocker Hospital, New York City, becoming a chief resident a year later. He then studied for a year in St. Michael Medical Center, Newark, NJ concentrating on kidney diseases, and later began practicing in Hopedale, IL.
In 1974, at the encouragement of some local businessmen, he began his general and internal medicine practice in Washington, IL, where he cared for patients for 40 years, retiring in 2014.
He was a member of the Tazewell County Medical Society, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the American Kerala Medical Graduates. He also enjoyed memberships in the Washington Rotary Club and the Washington Civic Club.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Washington where a private mass will be held for the family. Father John Steffen will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the mass and inurnment will be private at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with the arrangements.
