Douglas George Kirkwood, 96 of Peoria, IL went to his heavenly home at 11 am Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria, IL.

Born on August 6, 1926 in Peoria, IL to George D. and Minnie P. Folkers Kirkwood, he married Lois M. Siebenthal on Dec 20, 1947 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1985.

Surviving is one daughter, Diane (Gregory) Totten of Pekin, IL, 4 grandchildren; Tyler Magarity, Travis (Anne) Magarity, Tonya Magarity, and Aaron Peck, and 4 great-grandchildren; Ava, Ryan, John, and Julia Magarity.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Magarity, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

Douglas was a US Navy veteran, serving from July 25, 1944-June 2, 1946.

He worked as a painting contractor, owning DG Kirkwood Painting and Decorating in Peoria, which started in 1955 and where he retired from in 2005, after 50 years.

He was a member Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria.

Services will be at 10 am Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor Karl Eckhoff will officiate. A visitation will be from 9-10 am Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria, where military rites will be conducted. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or to Apostolic Christian Skylines.
