Obituary WASHINGTONa"Dorothy M. Sweeney, 91, of Washington formerly of East Peoria, died at 3:02 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Born on December 8, 1917 in East Peoria, IL to Perry and Jenny Wallace Arnold, she married William Sweeney on March 28, 1937 in East Peoria. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1998 in East Peoria. Surviving is her sister, Mary Lou (Ronald) Guth of Eureka; 3 daughters-in-law, Sue M. Sweeney of Washington, Karen Sweeney Thrush of Washington and Laura Sweeney of Peoria; 9 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren and 2 step great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Evelyn Birdsall, 2 sons, Gerald L. Sweeney and Robert L. Sweeney, 1 daughter, Shirley J. Jacobs, and 1 granddaughter, Teresa Rodkey. Dorothy was a member of the Rebekahs, and also had been a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in East Peoria. Dorothy loved to crotchet and enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 18 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, March 17 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
