Obituary
WASHINGTON - Dorothy Beatrice Pitts, 86 of Washington, IL, died at 9:42 pm Friday, April 13, 2012 at her home.
Born on April 22, 1925 in Marseilles, IL to Orville and Marjorie Sigler Foutch, she married Kenneth M. Pitts on August 11, 1946 in Marseilles, IL. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1999.
Dorothy was a loving mother to her daughter Lynne A. (Frank) Ballard of Washington; She had the greatest love and pride for her 4 grandsons, Ben (Michelle) Ballard of Lafayette, IN, Ryan (Sarah) Ballard of Washington, Matt (Nova) Ballard of Tempe, AZ, and Jay Ballard of Orlando, FL, and great-grandmother to; Hannah, Emily, Levi, Drew and graciously expecting great-grandchild number 5.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Ruth and Gladys, and 1 brother, Jack.
Dorothy was a typist at Great Lake Naval Base during World War II until she met the love of her life Ken and then she became a dedicated housewife and mother. She later worked part-time for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for several years and then took great pride in being a full-time grandma.
Dorothy enjoyed music and cultural events and was an avid game player who loved to socialize. She was well-known for her friendly, inviting demeanor, her sense of humor and her generosity. She enjoyed taking many wonderful trips with her husband Ken throughout their 52 years of marriage. Dorothy truly loved and embraced life. Dorothy helped organize the first library at Central Grade School and spent countless hours volunteering at school, church and community events. She gave generously of herself to everyone around her, including her two closest friends, Dolores and Mary Ann, and her many nieces and nephews and thier families. She leaves a legacy of loving kindness and infinite thoughtfulness to the many fortunate people whose lives she touched. Dorothy was a superb example of energy combined with a zest for life. We miss her already.
She was an active 40 year member of First United Methodist Church in Washington and currently attended the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington.
