Obituary Dorothy E. Knight, 89, of Washington, IL died at 11:42 pm Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Washington. Born on June 13, 1925 in Castle Rock, WI to Oliver J. and Gertrude Bauer Stake, she married her husband, Lawrence E. Knight, on January 1, 1942 in Peoria, IL. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Lawrence, her son, Jack (Susan) Knight of Washington, her grandson, J. D. (Alison) Knight of Morton, IL, and her 3 great-grandchildren, Gabe, Cooper, and Olivia, her brother, Lawrence Stake of Pekin, IL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert Stake and Albert Stake and 1 sister, Lorraine Donaldson. Dorothy worked at Humitube in Peoria for 10 years during the 1950's, where she made cellophane bags. She later retired from the Personnel Department at Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1987 where she had worked for 15 years. She was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club, the Local #974 Retirees and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clover Leaf Chapter. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Villas at Hollybrook in Washington, Transitions Hospice, and Private Care home services for all their care and support. At Dorothy's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation rites will be accorded, and inurnment will be at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mohammed Shrine Hospital Van Fund.
