Obituary
PEORIA - Dorothy J. Johnson, 72, of Peoria, died at 3:10 pm Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at her daughter's home in Marquette Heights, after a courageous two year battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Dorothy was born on December 13, 1940, in Peoria, to Charles Leroy and Arlene Ramah (Peace) Pope.
Surviving are 2 sons, Dennis (Lisa) Johnson of Hazel Park, MI and Kurt Johnson of Hoschton, GA; 1 daughter, Kirsten (Michael) Hengstberger of Marquette Heights; 3 brothers: Charles (Barb) Pope of Spring Valley, IL; Larry (Nancy) Pope of Lewisburg, TN; and Richard (Connie) Pope of Dewey, IL; 3 grandchildren, Dusti and Jayson Hengstberger both of Pekin, IL, and Beverly Johnson of Hazel Park, MI; 2 great-grandchildren, Audrey Massey and Sophie Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Laura Kristine.
She was a US Air Force veteran.
Dorothy was a cashier at Kroger in Peoria.
She was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church in Peoria and a volunteer basic math teacher at Common Place in Peoria. She was known as a very giving person of her time and all she had.
Visitation will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2013 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis MO, where military rites will be accorded.

Peoria.
