Obituary Washington-Doris Catherine Grove, 82, of Washington passed away at 12:05 PM on Monday, December 29, 2008 at her home. She was born December 20, 1926 to Rudolph and Estella (Hess) Oetzel. She married Harold Grove September 14, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1975. Survivors are son Rodney Grove of Washington; daughter Bonnie Steele of Palm Springs, CA; five grandchildren Elias (Erica) Grove, Stacy (Dana) Grove, Selene Grove, James Steele, and Jennifer (Tony) Diaz; three great-grandchildren Tanner Grove, Ethan Grove, and Malia Diaz. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harlan, and her parents. During WWII Doris worked at the Washington canning factory and later helped her husband farm. As an award winning quilter, she donated many quilts to the homeless and other groups and also supplied many babies with homemade quilts. In addition, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, canning, and flower gardening. Doris' kitchen was also open to anyone. She would cook and bake for any who needed a meal. A lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, she served on the church council, Alter Guild, was a member of W.E.L.C.A., served as Christian Service Chairman for many years, and was coordinator for all church funeral dinners. Doris also served as a member for the Woodford County Farm Bureau. A service to celebrate the life of Doris Catherine Grove will be held at 10:30 AM with visitation an hour prior on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. Additional visitation will also be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Memorials may be made in Doris' name to the American Heart Association, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, or to the American Diabetes Association. Service JAN 3. 10:30 AM St. Mark's Lutheran Church 200 S.
