Obituary PEORIAa"Doris E. Baumann, 90, of Peoria died at 12:40 AM on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was born September 26, 1917 in Peoria to John E. and Maude Ashton Abbott. She married Hermann F. Baumann on November 23, 1935 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1978. Surviving are her son, Michael (Becky) Baumann of East Peoria, IL; three daughters, Deborah Morici of South Elgin, IL, Pat Strickler of Fairhope, AL and Sharon (Robert) Wilson of Dunlap, IL; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Doris, one brother and three sisters. She was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Bartonville. Doris was a homemaker, assisted her husband with his construction company business, Baumann Construction. She had a passion for raising African Violets. Doris was a past president of the African Violet Society of Peoria and won many competitions. She also was a volunteer for the Luthy Botanical Gardens for many years. She was famous for her wonderful pie baking and her good sense of humor. Her family and friends will miss her and wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Emmanuel Wing at Lutheran Hillside Village for the loving care they gave her through her long illness. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Pastors Barbara Ziah and Paul Park will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10-11 AM on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hillside Village or to her church.
