Donald John Wiegand, 81, of East Peoria, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side.

He was born on January 16, 1943 to the late John H. and Frances R. (Kiser) Wiegand. He married Bettijean Dessaint in Nahunta, GA in 1964. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Darrell (Emily) and Valerie Kay Wiegand; his brother, Jack (Paula) Wiegand; and his grandchildren, Roniya Kay Wiegand-Scott, Natalie and Paige Wiegand.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Wiegand; and his sister, Kay Wiegand. Donald was a US Army Vietnam War Veteran. He enjoyed being outdoors and was known to be very athletic. He would often be found golfing, swimming, or water skiing in his spare time. He was also known to carry around his fishing pole so when he found the right spot he was prepared.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in East Peoria.

A funeral service will be held at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 2pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
