Obituary EAST PEORIAa"Donald A. Tharp, Sr, 83, of Pekin died at 1:31 PM on Monday, August 30, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on March 8, 1927 in Kampsville, IL to Archie and Elizabeth Vetter Tharp; he married Lois A. Hanscomb on June 14, 1947 in Pekin, IL. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2006 in Pekin. Surviving are 2 sons, Donald (Diane) Tharp, Jr. of Des Moines, IA and Stephen Tharp of Pekin; 2 daughters, Cathy (Rick) Wegman of Ft. Myers, FL, and Cheryl (Dwayne) Cole of Leonardtown, MD; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 granddaughter. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. Donald worked at Sealtest Dairy for 20 years. He also worked at Washington Jr. High School in Pekin and retired from Pekin Memorial Hospital where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the VFW Post 1232 in Pekin, and St. John's Lutheran Church A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. The Rev. Randy Justice will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment of cremated remains will be at Glendale Memory Gardens in Pekin.
