Obituary

Obituary Donald F. Stoner, 93, of East Peoria died peacefully at 8:45AM on October 13, 2014 at Heartland at Riverview. Don was born July 21, 1921 to Bernard and Mable Fulton Stoner in Lead, South Dakota. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sarah Davis Stoner. They were married on October 15, 1943 in Inglewood, California. Also surviving are his sons, David (Trudy) Stoner, of Princeville, James Stoner of Peoria, John (Nancy) Stoner of Belleair, FL, and his daughter, Susan Stoner or Peoria; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Desiree) Stoner of San Diego, CA, Scott (Heather) Stoner of Bloomington, Matthew (Laura) Stoner of Peoria, Elizabeth Stoner of Peoria, and Kyle Stoner of Belleair, FL; three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lennon Stoner of Bloomington and Trenton Stoner of Peoria; and a cousin, Gene Gibson of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don was a 1938 graduate of Deadwood High School in South Dakota. He graduated from Purdue University and received his Master's Degree from American College. He was an insurance agent and financial planner in the Peoria area for over 50 years. He was past president of both Central Illinois Chapter of CLUs and Peoria Life Underwriters. He was involved in community affairs his entire life. He was a strong supporter of East Peoria; he worked for years with the "Festival of Lights", the East Peoria Optimist Club, the East Peoria Police Pension Board, and the Tazewell County E911 Board. Don was also involved in Boy Scouts of America, both as a scout and a leader. Above all else, Don loved his family and spending time with them. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Peoria. A memorial service for Don will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Peoria. Pastor Jim Carlson will officiate. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 9:00-11:00AM. Cremation rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
