Obituary
Donald R. Sorensen, 74, of Washington, IL, died at 1:42 pm Thursday, November 4, 2010 at his home surrounded by his children.
He was born on January 24, 1936 in Havana, IL to Raymond A. and Margaretha F. Vanderveen Sorensen.
He is survived by his son Kirk Sorensen of Washington, IL, his two daughters, Kristy (Danny) Howell of Washington, IL and Kim (Pat) Tralongo of Huntsville, AL, three grandsons, Logan Howell of Washington, IL, Sam and Luke Tralongo of Huntsville, Al, and two granddaughters, Alison and LeighAnna Tralongo of Huntsville, AL.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Chet Bortell, who raised him.
He received his bachelors and masters degree in education from Western Illinois University in Macomb and began teaching in the Astoria, IL school system. After two years at Astoria, Don became an instructor and Basketball coach at Spoon River College in Canton, IL. In 1963, he entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent and served in Tampa and Sarasota, FL, Birmingham and Huntsville, AL and Springfield and Peoria, IL, retiring in 1986 after 23 years of service. He opened Sorensen Investigative Agency, Inc. in February of 1986 and operated it until his death.
Don was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington for over 40 years. He also was a member of the Retired FBI Society, and Ducks Unlimited. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed duck and goose hunting and fishing. He was also known for his beautiful flower gardens. Don loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Services for Don will be at 10 am Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Thomas Heren will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
