Obituary Donald E. Proffitt, 85, of Washington, currently residing in Peoria after the November tornado, passed away at 10:58am, Friday, May 2, 2014 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria after complications from the storm. Donald was born January 16, 1929 in Springfield, OH, to Edgar and Florence Kleder Proffitt. He first married Janice Sjogren, and later married Mary Susan Cox September 21, 1980 in East Providence, RI. Surviving is his wife, Susan; children, Michael (Beata) Proffitt of Broomfield, CO, and Jennifer Proffitt of Brooklyn, NY; and two grandsons, Oscar and Henry; and former wife, Janice Proffitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Donald was a US Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He worked as an insurance agent in Rhode Island, where he eventually met his wife. He enjoyed wildlife conservation, genealogy, and was very proud of his German and Irish heritage. He was "Mr. Fix It", and could fix anything. A memorial service for Donald will be at 10:00am Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Washington Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Rev. Rebecca Weltmann will officiate. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, Washington has been trusted with cremation rites.
