Obituary
East Peoria - Donald "Duke" Eberle, 85, of East Peoria died at 4:35 PM Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born April 14, 1926 in Peoria to Fred H. and Emma Brunner Eberle. He married Irene Anna Gruber on October 17, 1947 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2008.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and one brother. Donald is survived by two daughters; Debbie (Jerry) McCool of Morton, Brenda (Rich) Trout of Delavan, one son; Donald "Duck" Eberle II of Creve Coeur, three grandchildren; Nicholas, Holly and Skyler, two great-grandchildren; Matthew and Roy "RC", three sisters; Carol (Ed) Cremeens of Peoria, Mildred "Tootie" Sullivan of Peoria and Shirley (Bill) Janssen of Lakeland, FL.
There will be a funeral service for Donald on Saturday April 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor David Gruber will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Friday April 6, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton. Military rites will be performed by active duty Army personnel and TACT.
He was a WW II Army veteran. Donald worked as a crane operator for Caterpillar in East Peoria for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Greater Peoria Rose Society for many years and a member of the Illinois Valley Wheelman. He formerly attended Bethany Missionary Church for many years. He enjoyed woodworking. Donald was an avid bicyclist who averaged nearly twelve thousand miles ridden every year on his bike. He totaled nearly three hundred thousand miles ridden in his lifetime. In the 1990's he competed in the Sr. Olympics where he won numerous medals.
