Obituary Donald J. "Don" Dexheimer 85, of Washington, passed away at 6:15pm Monday, November 28, 2016 at Washington Christian Village. Don was born April 22, 1931 in Newark, NJ to Albert and Hazel Van Barriger Dexheimer. He married Rita Clark on September 4, 1954 in Binghamton, NY. Surviving is his wife, Rita; their children, Michael (Karen) Dexheimer, Diane Minehan, Larry (Elizabeth) Dexheimer, Marla (Rodney) Golden, and Nancy (Dennis) Irwin; nineteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and a son, Daniel "Danny" Dexheimer. Don was proud of his long career in insurance as a group administrator. Early in his career, he worked for Ohio State Insurance in Columbus, OH and Illinois Mutual Insurance in Peoria. He retired from Pekin Insurance in 1992, after 25 years of service. He also served his country in the US Army. Don enjoyed golfing with his wife and was a wonderful, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A funeral service for Don will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 11:00am-1:00pm Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Father Julius Turyatoranwa will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Side Mission or to Peoria Relief Ministries.
