Obituary

Obituary Donald Max Cox, 81, of East Peoria, passed away at 5:14pm, Friday, September 6, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center, East Peoria. Don was born September 10, 1931 in Havana, to Lloyd and Artha Smith Cox. He married Dorothy Marie Allison, August 25, 1951 in Peoria; she survives. Also surviving is a son, Danny Cox, Spring Bay; grandchildren, Tecoa, Daniel, Baylee, and Jensen; great-grandchildren, Josten, Hunter, Addison, and Aydin; and a sister, Marilyn I. McGinnis, Necedah, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin E. Graham and Jesse Wayne Cox; sisters, Carolyn E. Harms; two infant children, and one infant grandson. Don was a proud veteran, serving in the US Army from 1952-1954 in Germany. He was a life member of VFW Post #2078, East Peoria. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1990 after 26 years of service. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria for over 40 years, and was an avid Cardinals fan. He was active in fraternal organizations, including the Scottish Rite and York Rite of East Peoria, Mohammed Shrine of Bartonville, Order of the Eastern Star #1002 of East Peoria, and the Abbas Grotto. He was especially committed to the Hilton Lodge #1143, AF & AM of East Peoria. He was a life member and served as a Past Master of the Lodge. Don was a caring man, who was very devoted to his entire family. Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will conclude the visitation. Rev. Joe Richard will officiate. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Bartonville. The Tazewell Military Rites Team will perform military honors.
