Obituary

Donald Lee Bernovich, 89, of Marquette Heights, passed away on Wednesday, January 22,2025 at OSF St. Francis in Peoria.

He was born on September 23, 1935 in Canton, IL to the late Freida Annabelle (Coons) andGeorge F. Bernovich.

He is survived by his children, Donald Bernovich II of Minneapolis, MN, Shaun Bernovich of Pekin, IL, Christina (Daniel) Alcaraz of Peoria, IL, Alberta (Paul) Trilikis of Peoria, IL, Kerry (Jerri) Heady of Peru, IL, and Timothy Heady of Congerville, IL; his brothers, George Raymond Bernovich of East Peoria, IL, and Larry Tim Bernovich of Orland Park, IL; his 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Bernovich in May 2008.

Donald joined the United States Navy in 1954, where he went on to serve for the next 4 years. After the military, he went on to work as a carman for the Pekin Peoria Railroad Union for almost 30 years. Growing up, Donald was very active in his children's sporting activities, as he coached all of his children in baseball, softball and basketball. He was also the boy scout leader

for his sons. He was an active member of the Farmington Moose Lodge, the American Legion Post 2 in Peoria, A.B.A.T.E.and the Farmington Sportsman club. Donald loved to bowl and was part of a bowling league at Sunset Lanes in Pekin, IL. In addition Donald enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing and watching Illinois Sports.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Moose Lodge, A.B.A.T.E. or The American Legion.

Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.
