Don R. Brubaker, 93, of East Peoria, formerly of Washington, passed away at 9:51am Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born October 28, 1929 in Eureka, IL to Ralph and Anna Blumenshine Brubaker. He married Ana Mae Thomas in Washington on May 29, 1954. She preceded him in death July 26, 2009. He later married Carol Walton in Washington on October 23, 2010. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Tony (Shari) Brubaker, Brett (Shannon) Walton, Scott (Courtney) Walton; one daughter, Penny (Roger) Brookbank; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Captain Ralph (Mariko) Brubaker; and two step-brothers, Larry and Les Moreland. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marie Sittig; and four siblings.
Don graduated from Eureka High School where he was a two sport athlete. He was a United States Navy Korean War Veteran and was blessed to go on the prestigious Honor Flight in 2016 with his son Brett. He worked at Caterpillar Inc., retiring as tooling supervisor after over 38 years of service. He served three terms on Washington City Council, and two years on the Police Commission. He was very active with the Illinois Heartland Emmaus Community.
Don was a member of Crossroads Global Methodist Church in Washington, formerly attending the Washington Evangelical United Methodist Church.
He was well known in the Washington Community as a member of the "Chain Gang" for football games for over 50 years and will be dearly missed.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2pm Saturday, June 10th at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2pm Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital of IL, or Crossroads Global Methodist Church.
