Obituary Delmer Roald "Sonny" Gebhardt, Jr., 79, of Washington, passed away at 3:45pm Monday, January 1, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. He was born January 19, 1938 in Peoria to Marjorie (Bremer) Gebhardt and Delmer R. Gebhardt, Sr. He is survived by his sisters, Judi (Lindell) Albright of Peoria, Suzanne Hicks of Washington, and Peggy (Jim) Marrs of Peoria; ten nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Margaret Gebhardt; step-sister, Betty Jane Rantz; nephew, Dustin Allen Mills and David Dean Shropschier. Del graduated from high school in 1956 and was drafted into the Army in 1961. He served in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He began working at Caterpillar in 1966 and retired after 30 years of service. Del was an extremely giving person and loved donating to charities, especially St. Jude. His favorite pastime was reading, especially historical books and anything about Abraham Lincoln. He was lovingly known as Sonny or Uncle and was a huge Packers and Cardinals fan. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 10:00am Friday, January 5, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
