Obituary - DeEtte I. Hammer, 83, formerly of Haines City, FL and Genoa, IL, died at 12 am Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL. Born on February 21, 1927 in Shabonna, IL to Miles and Edna Griswold Stevens, she married Bobby E. Hammer on January 7, 1948 in Genoa, IL. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2009 in Metamora, IL. Surviving are 3 daughters; Peggy (Kenn) Geiger of Rock Island, IL, Paulette (James) Stalter of Metamora, IL, and Yvonne Hammer of Champaign, IL, 1 brother, Edwin "Pete" Stevens of Las Vegas, NV and 1 sister, Rita Blanchard of Davenport, IA, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister. DeEtte retired from Kingston Mutual Insurance Co. in Genoa after more than 25 years of service. For more than 40 years, DeEtte was active in numerous activities with the Girl Scouts. She was also a member of PEO and a volunteer at Give Kids the World in Kissimmee, FL. Services will be at 6 pm Monday, September 20, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. The Rev. Dr. Philip Icenogle will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 10 am Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
